What would Arsenal do without Thomas Partey? This question lingers, but the spotlight is now on Myles Lewis-Skelly, who has just put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the club, as confirmed by the Premier League side on Thursday.
The 18-year-old, a product of Arsenal’s youth academy, enjoyed a stellar breakout season in 2024-25. He stepped into Mikel Arteta’s lineup as an inverted left-back, racking up 39 appearances and even debuting for the England senior team along the way.
Though his previous contract was set to expire in 2026, Lewis-Skelly has secured enhanced terms, and while the club has yet to disclose the contract length, it is understood to be five years.
“I’m incredibly proud and happy,” Lewis-Skelly expressed. “I know those words sound simple, but they truly reflect how I feel signing for this club. As a fan, it feels like a dream come true.”
He emphasized the importance of the values instilled during his time at Hale End, stating, “I still have many years ahead. Staying humble and being a good person is what matters most to me.”
Reflecting on his experiences, he added, “I’ve learned so much from both the positive moments and the mistakes I’ve made. I’m definitely better prepared for the upcoming season and eager to keep learning and improving.”
Lewis-Skelly aims to build a legacy: “I want to win everything possible in this game and secure trophies on the grandest stages while continuously learning and remaining grounded, which is crucial.”
Last season, he played in 19 of Arsenal’s last 21 Premier League matches after breaking into the squad before the festive period. He netted his first goal for the club in a convincing 5-1 win against Manchester City, earning accolades from both his manager and teammates for his fearless style that includes precise passes and daring dribbles from the back.
“For an 18-year-old to be that talented, confident, and strong — it felt like he was engineered in a lab,” Declan Rice remarked earlier this year.
His exceptional performances led to an England call-up, and just 20 minutes into his debut, he found the net, marking the first goal of Thomas Tuchel’s reign in a 2-0 victory against Albania.
This new contract signifies not just a commitment from Arsenal, but also the club’s investment in its future talents. Lewis-Skelly’s rapid ascension highlights a trend of promoting youth, which could reshape Arsenal’s identity in the coming years.
