LEICESTER, England — The Lionesses delivered an impressive performance, defeating Jamaica 7-0 on Sunday. This victory served as a triumphant send-off as they prepare to travel to Switzerland for Euro 2025, aiming to defend their championship title.
England showcased their strength against a Jamaica side that struggled to keep pace. Ella Toone was particularly outstanding, netting two goals, while Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway, Alessia Russo, Aggie Beevor-Jones, and Beth Mead also contributed to the scoreline.
Adding to England’s excitement, Lauren James made her return from a hamstring injury, playing 30 minutes off the bench, which was a significant boost for the team.
This match was England’s last before commencing their Euro 2025 journey against France on July 5. Coach Sarina Wiegman hinted at her starting lineup for the upcoming match, with Alex Greenwood and Leah Williamson set to partner at centre back, Jess Carter at left-back, and Toone in midfield.
In front of 25,088 fans, England dominated the first half, maintaining pressure on Jamaica. The breakthrough came in the 10th minute when Toone scored with a well-placed shot from outside the box, marking her first goal for England since February 2024.
Despite a moment of concern when Jamaica had a goal ruled out due to offside, England continued to control the game. Bronze doubled their lead in the 32nd minute with a header from a Carter cross. Toone then made it 3-0 before half-time with a curling shot that hit the post and rolled in.
The second half began with a slightly slower pace, but Stanway soon added a fourth goal with a powerful strike from 12 yards. Wiegman made strategic substitutions, including the return of James, who assisted Russo’s goal in the 70th minute.
Beevor-Jones and Mead capped off the scoring, with Mead recovering from a knee scare to net the final goal in added time, ensuring England concluded their Euro 2025 preparations in style.
