According to reports, free agent Moe Wagner has finalized a one-year agreement worth $5 million to rejoin the Orlando Magic. This deal was struck between Wagner’s agent, Jason Glushon, and Magic officials on Friday.
Earlier this summer, the Magic opted not to exercise Wagner’s $11 million team option, which allowed him to enter free agency. Despite facing a torn ACL injury in December, the 28-year-old had been enjoying a breakout season, averaging a career-best 12.9 points per game and showcasing impressive shooting percentages of 56.2% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc.
In his 30 games played, Wagner was not only a strong contender for the Sixth Man of the Year but also led the NBA in scoring among players averaging under 20 minutes on the court, as noted by ESPN Research. Known for his connection to Magic star Franz Wagner, Moritz was picked 25th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. After a brief stint with three different teams during his initial seasons, he was waived in the latter part of the 2020-21 season and subsequently signed by Orlando.
Moe Wagner’s return to the Magic presents an opportunity for both the player and the team to capitalize on his developed skills. With the NBA landscape ever-changing, Wagner’s performance this season could significantly influence his future contracts and the team’s strategy moving forward.
