As we gear up for the 2025 MLB draft, it’s the perfect moment to unveil my expanded ranking of this year’s top prospects, now featuring 250 players.
This list reflects my assessment of how impressive these athletes truly are, rather than predicting which teams will select them in the draft.
In preparation, I’ve revised my overall minor league top 100 rankings to incorporate updates and remove players who have graduated. This will give you a clearer idea of where the top draftees might fit into that list once they sign. Additionally, I’ve assigned Future Value grades (FV) to help gauge their standing within your team’s overall prospect rankings. Tool grades for players with a 45-plus FV are also included.
This year’s draft class is particularly exciting, featuring a strong group of college left-handed pitchers. But who stands out as the top player? Let’s dive into the rankings.
1. Kade Anderson (21.0), LHP, LSU
Fastball: 50/55, Slider: 55/60, Curveball: 45/50, Changeup: 50/55, Command: 45/55
MLB Top 100 Rank: 25
If things don’t pan out, it could be due to durability issues or a drop in performance.
Anderson had Tommy John surgery in high school, which derailed his early trajectory as a top prospect. However, he returned as a strong performer, striking out 180 batters in the spring season.
Despite some concerns regarding his elbow surgery and frame, Anderson is seen as a quick mover in the league, needing only minor adjustments to reach his potential.
2. Ethan Holliday (18.3), SS, Stillwater HS (OK), Oklahoma State Commit
Hit: 25/45, Game Power: 30/65, Raw Power: 60/70, Speed: 45/40, Fielding: 40/50, Throwing: 55/55
MLB Top 100 Rank: 31
Holliday’s summer performance raised eyebrows, but he’s expected to be a strong hitter with solid defensive capabilities.
3. Eli Willits (17.6), SS, Fort Cobb-Broxton HS (OK), Oklahoma Commit
Hit: 30/60, Game Power: 20/45, Raw Power: 40/50, Speed: 60/55, Fielding: 45/55, Throwing: 55/55
MLB Top 100 Rank: 37
Willits is another promising player who has garnered attention for his speed and fielding skills.
As the draft approaches, discussions around these young talents intensify. Teams are weighing the potential of players like Kade Anderson and Ethan Holliday, considering their abilities and past performances.
While Anderson seems poised to make a quick impact in the league, Holliday’s journey has been more tumultuous, reflecting the unpredictable nature of drafted prospects.
The 2025 MLB draft is not just about selecting the best players; it’s also about understanding their potential trajectories and how they can fit into the teams’ plans. With several college pitchers leading the rankings, teams are keen to find immediate contributors. The stakes are high, and the excitement is palpable as we approach draft day.
